San Francisco – 2012

by on Mar.04, 2012, under Photography, Travel

Just got back from San Francisco. This time of the year its at 4-12DegC. Pretty cold. Well I prefer cold than hot and humid. :D

Was there to attend the world biggest IT security conference organized by RSA. Enjoyed my trip there coz I met up with a lot of top rated security vendors and conferences.
Took a stock Nikon V1 and 10-30mm Lens there (30-110mm too but did not manage to use it) and I forgotten to bring along the flash.

Anyway, here are some shots taken with the camera.
All are Aperture Priority, most are ISO100, and rest are Auto Aperture from ISO 200-800. White Balance is mostly at Auto and I’m pretty surprised at its accuracy!
Nice little walk around camera for travel.

Arrived on Sunday late morning. Decided to walk around waiting for me to be hungry enough to eat after a 20 hrs flight from Singapore. Also to try to adapt to the climate change (from 34degC to 8 degC)

Note: Have used Lightroom to slightly enhance the pictures. All shots taken using RAW. Lightroom is able to pull out quite a lot of details from the Raw files to my surprise. Thus I strongly recommend those having J1 or V1 cams, to use RAW as much as possible. White balance at Auto seems to do much of the trick.

Acceptable for such a small camera. And it is fast. Will test more in the coming days.

Universal Studio Singapore

by on Feb.12, 2012, under Photography, Photography Gears

Sorry guys, it has been a while since I have last updated this blog. Had been really busy with work and a new-addition, who is taking up most of our time. Not sure if the new-addition is entertaining us or we are entertaining her. Nevertheless, I did do some photography for charity work (Make A Wish). As I would like to respect the privacy of the families for the MAW Christmas party, I did not upload any pictures here at all.

Not so long ago, I’ve been to USS (Universal Studio Singapore). Not a fan of it, but don’t mind dropping in once in a while.

Went into the Shrek castle for the first time. Thinking it is just walking in around. Did not realize that it is actually a movie ride. Darn, out we go again. Do not think the little one would be able to sit in for more than.. 1 min?

I must say, the Chinese Hollywood restaurant inside USS is nice. Cool (from the unforgiving heat outside) and the food is, better than average. Cod fish, Tofu, Chinese Spinach are all nicely done. Except the soup, a bit too much almond for my liking.

A few things I’ve learn today. Toddlers love the “Move It Move It” music from Madagascar, and the love looking at people dance and sing.

3 fine young and energetic ladies doing the 70′s rocknroll with hamburger drive in restaurant behind as backdrop.

New attraction, Transformer. That is bumblebee in a nice cool car form.

Did not see this the last time round though. A head figure in the Egyptian quarters. I cannot remember her name, but I guess she was the wife of kin Tut.

Got to do some shopping, got some polo shirt, a ball (yeah a ball) and a golf umbrella.

For photography gears, I wanted to take something light. I ended up holding the following, which works pretty well:

  • ThinkTank ProSpeed belt with harness add-on
  • ThinkTank Double skin for putting my 14-24 and a spare section which I use to help me put the 24-70mm when I change lens. Pretty convenient
  • ThinkTank Chimp Cage for other stuff.
  • Nikon D3s
  • Nikkor 14-24mm F2.8
  • Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8
  • Nikon Speedlight SB900
  • BlackRapid SportsR sling
  • Datacolor SpyderCube

This still leaves me with spare hands to roll stroller and carry the “new-addition” around.
