Nikkor Trinity Lenses

by on Mar.28, 2011, under Photography, Photography Gears

I’ve decided to get the rest of the famed trinity lenses the last 2 days. Sole decision base upon Nikon Pro lens and Pro body production plant in Senkai Japan is shutdown indefinitely (still no word of when it will be starting production again).

I do understand it would not be for a while. I’ve heard equipment are damaged and people are injured during the devastating earthquake and later the terrifying tsunami that struck North East Japan. This is terrible news.

My heart goes to the people and the survivors. Really hope the rebuilding is done quickly and all could go back to their normal lives soon. I’m sure they can as Japanese are very resilient people.

Coming back to the lenses, the famed trinity lenses here are

  • 14-24mm F2.8
  • 24-70mm F2.8
  • 70-200mm F2.8 VRII

14-24mm f2.8 have been purchased by NASA for space shuttle and space station missions. It is well known for its sharpness even at 2.8 aperture.

I’ve tested this tonight.

The picture below was taken on my resident frog that has taken refuge underneath one of my flower pot on the balcony planter area. It is taken using 70-200mm, handheld at 200mm fully extended. No flash, natural light. I’ve taken it standing about 2m away…This picture is cropped heavily as the frog appears small in the frame. But I’m still impressed with the details and sharpness (focusing on the frog).

Nikon D3s, Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VRII

Both lenses are impressively sharp, even at fully open f2.8! This feels different from my other “normal” lenses. Heavy weight is common among the gold ring lenses, also the quality of build is extremely good. Really hope to have some time with the lenses and to take some good shots to share on this blog.

This is for all now. TTYL.

CNY Food Distribution

by on Jan.22, 2011, under Personal, Photography

Dropped by Redhill this afternoon to participate in the Food Distribution for the needy. Most are elderly who turned up in droves.

We have quite a fair bit to give out today and thanks to the volunteers, it was a very smooth event.

Needless to say, the pic below tells the whole story.. Bag load of goodies for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration. Gong Xi Fa Cai everyone!
